IASSIST 2011
“Data Science Professionals: a Global Community of Sharing”
The International Association for Social Science Information Services & Technology’s (IASSIST) annual conference will take place in Vancouver, Canada, May 30 - June 3, 2011.
IASSIST invites you to attend its 37th annual conference, which will be jointly hosted by the Simon Fraser University Library (SFU) and the University of British Columbia Library (UBC).
The theme of this year’s conference is “Data Science Professionals: a Global Community of Sharing” .
Social science benefits from professional practices that enable sharing of data, information, and knowledge with a global community. This theme is intended to stimulate discussions about ways in which sharing contributes to research and professional practices that foster scientific progress.
Scientific practices have evolved to reflect changing needs and capabilities for discovery and inquiry. Data-driven science, or e-science, challenges data science professionals to share resources and use new tools and techniques to access, integrate, and analyze data from various sources.
The sharing of data, information, and knowledge benefits research in the social sciences. Sharing tools and techniques has the potential to improve capabilities across disciplines and along the entire data life cycle.
For almost four decades the IASSIST community has been connecting globally. These connections have fostered discussions with experts and built networks that enable community members to learn about the latest trends in data-driven science, data documentation, and the reuse of data and tools.
IASSIST 2011 offers an opportunity to continue this tradition.
The IASSIST Workshops will be held on Tuesday May 31 at The University of British Columbia Campus. The Conference will take place Downtown Vancouver at SFU Harbour Centre Campus.
